New Detroit drive axles introduced
DETROIT, Mich. — New Model 6 Detroit drive axles have been introduced to save weight and improve efficiency.
The new axles are available in single drive 4×2 or 6×2 configurations with ratios from 2.28-5.88. New features include weight-optimized housings, hollow axle shafts and an internal baffle that reduces oil-churning inefficiencies while cruising, the company claims.
The 4×2 single drive axle is ideal for LTL applications on Freightliner Cascadia and M2 112 trucks and tractors, has a weight rating of up to 23,000 lbs and a 1,750-lb. torque capacity.
The 6×2 tandem with tag axle is aimed at weight-sensitive applications and is rated up to 40,000 lbs., also with a 1,750-lb. torque capacity. It has the potential to reduce weight by 431 lbs, Detroit claims.
“Our new Model 6 drive axles have the strength and performance customers expect from Detroit Axles,” said Brad Williamson, manager, powertrain marketing for Daimler Trucks North America. “Our wide range of axle options means we have the solutions customers demand – solutions that are ideal for any application.”
