Caledon, Ont. secures $60,000 fine, prohibition order against illegal truck depot
The Town of Caledon, in Ontario’s Region of Peel, on Feb. 11 secured a successful prosecution resulting in a $60,000 fine tied to an illegal truck depot along The Gore Road.
A prohibition order was also granted, preventing the future parking or storage of commercial motor vehicles weighing more than 4,500 kilograms (9920 pounds) on the property, the town said in a news release.
The enforcement action comes amid broader efforts by the municipality to address unauthorized trucking-related land use. Since launching its Illegal Land Use Task Force in November 2024, the town says it has investigated more than 100 files linked to suspected illegal activities.

Those efforts have resulted in 32 prosecutions currently at various stages of the legal process, 11 ongoing investigations, eight orders and notices with compliance deadlines approaching, four injunctions, and one prohibition order.
“We are seeing real progress, but this important work must continue,” Mayor Annette Groves said. “Our community deserves safe roads and responsible land use. I want to thank our provincial and federal colleagues who continue to stand with us as we push for stronger tools and meaningful change.”
The town added it welcomed recent comments from Ontario’s Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Rob Flack, who said during the Rural Ontario Municipal Association conference in January that the province plans to introduce legislation this spring aimed at addressing illegal land use and unauthorized trucking operations.

Our “GREAT NORTH” unfortunately now includes a bloody farce of a hwy 11 which is mistakenly called the Trans Canada which is supposed to be very scenic with beautiful country and wild life. However this vital road that connects the vast beautiful north, east and west is too often strew with blood, guts and bodies of dismembered families lying on its roadways. I keep hearing the cries of destroyed families who live there about when is the govt of ‘Southern’ Ontario and specifically the very honorable (?) Transport Minister going to do something about unqualified truck drivers and unsafe companies and unsafe roads between Hearst and Nipigon to Thunder Bay. I lived in Noranda que., Toronto area and now Ottawa, but my heart is with the great people of the North who have to put up with politicians in Hyde Park who work for the vote rich South only. I hear you all here in Ottawa but you are all wasting your time. You just have to accept that and accept that the North is really a bad place to live and raise a family in safety and happiness.
Where is the plan to have 5000 more truck parking spots in the region and 25 more truck repair bays at a reasonable price? Part of the problem is large distribution centers do not currently have overnight parking or paying into a fund to build parking with washrooms and a drivers room with electric plugs
