ROUTING & NAVIGATION

Xata Corporation, specializing in fleet-optimization software, and ALK Technologies, makers of navigation software, have launched CoPilot Truck 8 Professional integrated with XataNet. It offers updated PC*Miler 25 routing and availability on a wider range of hardware platforms.

A fully on-board navigation system, it calculates optimal, truck-specific routes without using mobile communications or off-board computations, ensuring rapid access to off-line highway and street-level digital maps. Voice-guided, truck-specific, turn-by-turn directions are automatically generated, with optimal new routes instantly calculated if a driver misses a turn or deviates from the planned route.

Xata delivers real-time information on vehicle and driver performance, making it easy for fleet managers, dispatchers and drivers to collect, sort, view and analyze data to help reduce costs, increase safety and compliance, and improve customer satisfaction. The company’s products are said to seamlessly combine enterprise software, on-board computing, real-time communications, and global positioning to provide enterprise-wide logistics management.

New CoPilot Truck 8 Professional features include Lane Assist, ‘real’ signpost information combined with lane indicator arrows that provide clear guidance on which lane to take. There’s also CoPilot ClearTurn, said to give drivers a clear, realistic view on the approach to complex intersections and highway exits.

Updated PC*Miler 25 routing includes more than 3.5 million commercial truck restrictions and allowances, including bridge heights and clearances, load limits, weight limits and allowances, one-way road designations, left-hand and dangerous turn restrictions, as well as truck-restricted, and truck-designated roads. It also includes millions of points of interest including truck services, truckstops, rest areas and weigh stations.

CoPilot Truck 8 Professional is now available for use on Micronet’s CE-504 and CE-507 in-cab touch-screen devices.
