MONCTON, NB— Armour Transportation Systems (ATS) has recently been recognized for their involvement in the community by both the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Boys and Girls Club of Moncton.

Late in April, ATS received the silver category award at the “The Power to Change” Workplace Wellness Conference, for their wellness program.

ATS was recognized for their “Shift Gears, Live Well” Wellness Program, which they have been promoting since 2006. The wellness program includes initiatives related to physical activity, tobacco-free living, healthy eating and psychological wellness for ATS employees.

More recently, ATS followed that honor with another: the “Builder of Youth Lifetime Achievement Award” from the Boys and Girls Club of Moncton, which was given to Wesley Armour, ATS president and CEO.

The Boys and Girls Club of Moncton aims to engage children and challenge them to learn and grow; to achieve their full potential as adults. Armour said he is proud to accept their award because he believes in their mission to “give every child a chance for a better future.”

“We are all part of something bigger than ourselves – when we give to others, when we serve others, when we help others, everyone benefits,” he said in his acceptance speech.

ATS focuses on developing youth, health care and education.

“Education is a valuable asset that will open many doors,” Armour said.

Armour has also mentored and financially supported young entrepreneurs in New Brunswick and set up an annual scholarship program. The scholarship is available to their employees’ children going into their first year of post-secondary education.

He said that one lesson stayed with him throughout his life: “Treat people fairly and with respect, be truthful and honest,” and this lesson, he said has helped him both in his relationships and business life.

Over the past decade, ATS has contributed to youth-related activities and charities like the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, community hospitals and universities, and Boys and Girls Clubs.
