OPP nab truck driver for bobtailing without two tires
A Brampton, Ont., truck driver is facing multiple charges after Ontario Provincial Police officers pulled over his bobtail truck that was missing two tires.
On Jan. 20 at about 3 a.m., Burlington OPP officers responded to a public complaint of a truck driving slowly and missing tires on the Queen Elizabeth Way heading toward Toronto from Ontario Street in St. Catharines.
Rob Tihor, OPP community engagement officer, told trucknews.com that the two outside tires on the rear passenger side were missing. Officers were able to see and hear the truck approaching and stopped it near Casablanca Blvd. in Grimsby.
“The sound was likely coming from a combination of the missing tires, damaged rims and unbalanced wheels,” Tihor said. “There wouldn’t have been much other traffic on the road at the time either.”
The driver was completing his daily inspection report as the officer approached to speak with him.
The 36-year-old male driver has been charged with operating an unsafe commercial motor vehicle (CMV), driving a CMV with a major defect, and failing to ensure the daily inspection report is accurately completed.
