Trailer orders up in October, but still off last year’s pace

by Truck News

COLUMBUS, Ind. – Preliminary trailer orders for October totaled 21,050 units, up from September but down from last year, according to ACT Research.

“Net trailer orders rebounded strongly in October, following a disappointing September. This preliminary report points to a sequential gain of over 60% for the month,” said Frank Maly, ACT’s director CV transportation analysis and research.

“It appears that dry vans provided major impetus last month. Despite the October surge, the 2016/17 order season continues to trail last year’s pace; October volume was approximately 37% behind the same month last year, and our analysis shows year-to-date orders off a similar percentage.”

Maly added, “It’s evident that fleets remain cautious regarding their purchase commitments, continuing to balance their cap-ex plans to current market conditions.”
