Volvo opens order books for new VNR regional haul truck
Volvo Trucks North America (VTNA) is now taking orders for its redesigned VNR regional haul truck.
Production remains on track to begin in February at Volvo’s New River Valley plant in Virginia. The truck has undergone a 90% redesign, resulting in fuel economy improvements of 7.5%, the company says.

“The street smart VNR is a true workhorse, designed specifically for the demanding nature of regional and urban delivery where tight corners, traffic and safety risks and fuel costs matter more than ever,” said Peter Voorhoeve, president, Volvo Trucks North America. “With this model, we are raising the bar on safety, delivering measurable fuel savings, and giving fleets real choices to match their routing needs. We are excited to open the order books and start getting trucks slotted for production.”
It’s an important segment for Volvo. The North American Council for Freight Efficiency (NACFE) noted nearly 45% of Class 8 trucks built today are day cabs, many of which are deployed in regional and urban haul applications.
The new VNR is available in configurations including 4×2, 6×2 and 6×4 tractor as well as straight truck with a variety of body types.
In addition to better fuel economy, Volvo says the new VNR offers a tighter turning radius for better maneuverability, advanced active safety features, availability of a camera monitor system, and a 24-volt electrical architecture.
It can be ordered in two trim levels: Core and the higher-end Edge. It is powered by Volvo D13 engine with or without turbocompounding.
