BRUSSELS, Belgium – The European Commission has extended its review of Volvo AB’s takeover of Scania AB, claiming that the truck makers have withheld information.

European Competition Commissioner Mario Monti has also questioned Volvo’s assertion that the company’s resulting monopoly of Sweden’s truck making business would be balanced by other European competitors.

The ruling, originally to wrap up on March 10, will now come by March 23.

Commission spokesman Michael Tscherny declined to indicate what information is being sought.
