Cancom to bring Qualcomm north
MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – Cancom
Tracking Solutions will bring Qualcomm’s MVPc system into Canada in the first half of the year, giving fleets a computer and communications system that’s easily customized.
Qualcomm and Symbol Technologies recently formed a $14-million partnership to develop the system.
With Windows CE as the backbone of the system, programmers can set it up to track such things as rolling ETAs, inventory control programs or driver logs, marrying the information to such things as a customer’s efficiency tools.
The ruggedized computer has been designed specifically to integrate with Qualcomm’s satellite-based OmniTRACS information management system. And the software will also be able to communicate through Symbol’s Spectrum24 wireless local area network, allowing for wireless communication when the vehicle enters an area such as a terminal yard.
