Capacity solution starts with driver retention

I just wanted to send you a quick note on your Viewpoint article from the November/ December issue, “Easing of truck capacity – reality or wishful thinking?” Very good article.

We are a personnel provider to some large carriers and specifically provide qualified “AZ” truck drivers. We believe that the carriers and the market itself do not see or do not want to see what really lies ahead in regards to qualified, experienced drivers in this marketplace.

We have found a system that does work in retaining professional individuals. The support of the carriers and the change in their mindset is essential for growth and retention. I am not confident we will be able to change their minds this year on how important a driver is to the business. They are in our view the only things that matter. We believe the shiniest trucks, fancy trailer, large terminals, best dispatchers and software programs can not do a thing or even be employed if it does not begin with drivers in the seats of the same shiny trucks mentioned.
