Manitoba carrier ratings now online

WINNIPEG, Man. – Despite the opposition of the Manitoba Trucking Association (MTA), the Manitoba Department of Transportation has published its Carrier Safety Ratings on the World Wide Web.

Effective Apr. 1, the ratings are available through http://www. gov.mb.ca/hwy/cps-index.html. According to the MTA previous audits have not been used as a basis for establishing the safety ratings. The group remains critical of the move and is adamantly opposed to the publication of the ratings until a number of “related and relevant issues have been addressed.”

Those issues include inconsistent rating methodologies; commercial-driver profiles; shipper liability; and accident thresholds.

The group is also concerned about the lack of a mechanism to provide a re-audit to carriers upon demand. n
