OTTAWA, Ont. – The number of for-hire carriers making more than $1 million in revenue per year is on the rise. Where 2,500 fell into that category in the first half of 1999, only 2,200 made the millionaires club in the first half of 1998.

Operating revenues for these carriers climbed to $7.9 billion in the first half of 1999, while operating expenses posted by for-hire carriers reached $7.4 billion.

Operating ratios, calculated by dividing expenses by operating revenues, were at 0.93, and unchanged from the same period in 1998. n
