OTTAWA, Ont. – A recent article in the Windsor Star has created some confusion about the meal allowance policy for truck drivers, according to Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

The article created concern among truck drivers by reporting: “Starting Jan. 1, Revenue Canada has decreed, truck drivers will be able to claim half the value of only one $15 meal per day – if they have been on the road at least 12 hours that day. That means annual income of $1,000 has just evaporated for most Canadian truck drivers.”

CRA quickly pointed out there has in fact, been no such change to the meal allowance policy for truck drivers.

“No changes have been made to the meal allowance or the taxes,” says Pat Kisil, regional manager of communications for Canada Revenue Agency.
