DOWNSVIEW, Ont. – The Ontario Provincial Police has launched an intense road safety blitz that will run in different regions throughout the province this year.

Focus 2000 will concentrate on monitoring traffic along major highways. During a recent blitz in the Toronto area, there was a four-fold increase in the number of on-highway cruisers.

“This is basically a community-driven initiative, and it’s mainly aimed at the four-wheelers,” says Sgt.Cam Woolley. “Truckers have complained about cars not sharing the road properly, about being cut off.”

The OPP will have officers on the road to check for aggressive driving and seatbelt use among the four-wheelers. Truck Troopers will also be monitoring truck traffic. n
