Road collisions down in 2004 (February 01, 2006)

OTTAWA, Ont. – Motor vehicle fatalities decreased again in 2004, despite an increasing volume of vehicles and drivers on Canadian highways. Injuries also decreased by 4.5 per cent over 2003 according to the latest edition of the Canadian Motor Vehicle Traffic Collision Statistics, released by Transport Canada. The report features collision statistics for 2004 including historical information dating back to 1984.

Canada’s road safety record has steadily improved in recent years. Road traffic deaths have declined by nearly 50 per cent since 1980, according to the report. To view the full report, visit www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety/tp/tp3322/2004/menu.htm.
