Reimer president and chief executive officer, Allan Robison, outlines the ways his company tackles the skills shortage:

Problem: Shoddy driving schools

Solution: Create your own school

Problem: “I’m away from home too much,” complaints

Solution: Encourage family teams

Problem: Lack of people interested in the industry

Solution: Seek out new sources, such as immigration

Problem: Lack of respect from dispatchers

Solution: Enforce respect within the workplace

Problem: Low driver pay levels

Solution: Pay competitive wages for wait time and for loading/unloading.
