FREDERICTON, N.B. – In an attempt to entice new drivers to its fold, Sunbury Transport Ltd. has introduced a one mile-one rate program.

The program pays drivers the same rate regardless of whether they are hauling full or empty trailers or to what region of the country they are delivering.

Sunbury will continue to offer a bonus program for top performing drivers. Last year, more than 60 per cent of the long-haul fleet received bonuses for operating safely and delivering 98 per cent on-time or better.

“The new plan allows for a six- cent-per-mile increase (loaded or empty). The average owner/operator and driver is on the road for 120,000 miles per year. This new program ensures a minimum $7,000 increase for our professional owner/operators,” said Dale Thibodeau, Sunbury’s general manager.

“With our bonus program for safety and on-time delivery, they can make up to $10,000 more per year.” n
