At Truxpo, covered by western editor Jim Bray, Sutco Transportation Specialists of Salmo, B.C. unveiled a new pinkish/purplish truck that will be used to raise awareness about cancer as well as money to help fight the disease. “Everybody’s affected by cancer,” Sutherland told Truck West during an interview at the 2014 Truxpo exposition in Abbottsford, noting that his Dad, Robert, is currently fighting oral cancer after having beaten prostate cancer two years ago – an illness that also cost Doug’s father-in-law his life three years ago. “Everyone’s got the same story and everyone’s affected the same way.”
Pink Power, a Kenworth T680, will be put into service as a rolling billboard to raise awareness about the risks of not getting tested for various cancers, but will also allow the company to contribute hard cash to the cause. Customers are being asked to pay a cent per kilometre on top of their regular rate, which will be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society. Sutco plans to raise about $70,000 this way over the next three years.
