Thermo King reefer claimed to improve fuel efficiency

Thermo King’s new Super-II-190 trailer refrigeration unit is designed to let food distribution and grocery companies select the features most important to them, says the company.

The Super-II-190 is aimed at regional food distributors and grocers who regularly haul produce or non-frozen products, and uses Thermo King’s latest technology for noise reduction and fuel efficiency. The Whisper engine, changes to the exhaust and intake system, and added gaskets and acoustic foam allow customers with inner-city deliveries to comply with local noise ordinances.

With the addition of the optional electronic throttling valve, or ETV, the load on the compressor engine is reduced, resulting in five to 15 percent greater fuel efficiency, depending on the application, according to Thermo King.

“Many of our customers have moved from the standard to the Whisper units, so what we’ve done is combined the best attributes of both the SB Series and Super II Whisper Edition and made them available as either standard or optional features. Either way, they will have the best available control technology for maintaining temperatures,” says Doug Lenz, Thermo King marketing manager, trailer and rail products.
