OTTAWA, Ont. – Transport Canada has released its latest list of recalled heavy-duty trucks, and the current list is restricted to Freightliner and Volvo models.

1998-2000 Freightliner Sterling A and L: The fuel tank steps on these vehicles may develop fatigue cracks due to excessive overhang. This could result in personal injury should the step give way. The steps will be reinforced and cracked steps will be replaced and reinforced.

1999-2000 Freightliner Century C, FLD, Argosy, Business C, Sterling A, Sterling L trucks: The rear suspension springs may fracture through the center bolt hole after vehicle assembly. If undetected, the rear end of the spring may separate from the vehicle causing a hazardous road debris situation. For vehicles equipped with single leaf springs, all springs must be removed and replaced. For vehicles with dual leaf springs, inspect for cracked springs and replace if cracked.

1998-2000 Freightliner Argosy: An unplugged hole in the floorboard can allow road salt and moisture into an area where a 12-volt power outlet is mounted. A short between the outlet terminals may develop that can cause an electrical fire. Vehicles will be inspected to determine if a floorboard plug was installed. On vehicles found without a plug, a new outlet plug will be installed.

1997-98 Volvo VN, ACL, WAH, WCA, WIA, WG, WX trucks: The double check valve disc incorporated into the brake manifold dash valve can become brittle over time and crack. If this condition exists and there is a single point failure in either the primary or secondary air system, loss of all service braking could result without warning with the potential for a vehicle crash. The manifold dash valve will be replaced. n
