Truck News scribes earn AZs, a promotion

DON MILLS, Ont. – Truck News editor John Curran and assistant editor Brandi Cramer are among the most recent Ontarians to have joined the exclusive club of licensed AZ drivers.

“Obviously there’s a big difference between doing something in the flesh and simply writing about it,” says Curran. “While we are still quite green in terms of experience, the entire process really opened our eyes to the hardships faced by truckers plying their trade on the province’s highways. Before anyone gets their G, the MTO should force them to spend a day in a truck.”

Cramer, who’s father also happens to have his AZ, said upon passing the in-cab portion of the exam, “I can’t wait to call my Dad, he’s going to be so proud … I know I’ll never drive the same around big rigs again.”

Additionally, James Menzies has been promoted to the position of western news bureau chief.

“This new role for Menzies within the Truck News editorial team reflects the great strides he’s made over the past year with our organization,” says Curran. “For years, eastern-based trucking magazines have pretended to cover the west from Ontario; clearly Menzies has proven making an investment in Western Canada is money well spent. “
