Trucking has cost me a lot

Dear editor,

I’ve been a trucker for 21 years and I’m appalled by what I’ve experienced.

I would like to begin by saying first the trucking industry cost me my marriage and two bankruptcies. In the 21 years as a supposed professional driver I’ve driven and moved everything for a wage that is laughable.

The Hours-of-Service were so abused I am still recovering three years later from the road. I’ve spent this whole year on education and what I’ve learned is what concerns me the most.

When are truck drivers going to realize they are worth three times their current value?

How many drivers are aware that working more hours just means they pay more tax? The only people really benefiting are the owners. I think all truckers should be allowed to dispatch for a week or two to see the truth.
