US economy pained by poor transportation: Study
WASHINGTON -- The U.S. transportation system is failing to keep pace with the demands of a 21st-century economy, and a piecemeal approach to improving infrastructure no longer works, concludes a study by the Americans for Transportation Mobility Coalition and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
Latest truck tonnage reading ‘a setback’
ARLINGTON, Va. -- After edging up the last couple of months, U.S. truck tonnage sank 3.3 percent in March 2008 -- the largest month-to-month contraction since August 2006, according to the American Trucking Associations' advanced seasonally adjusted For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index.
