MTA, Manitoba to work on interim safety rating policy
WINNIPEG, MB -- Manitoba Infrastructure will be working with the Manitoba Trucking Association (MTA) over the next two weeks to establish an interim policy for the province's Carrier Profile System (CPS) and safety ratings -- and address an existing model that has reportedly caused Manitoba fleets to lose business opportunities.
Knight and Swift to merge
Swift Transportation Co. and Knight Transportation Inc. announced on April 10 that they will merge via a stock swap to form a new company, Knight-Swift Transportation, according to published reports. The deal would combine two of the largest players in trucking in a business valued at over US $5 billion. The two Phoenix-based carriers will be operated as distinct brands, according to a news report posted by The Wall Street Journal.

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN - A truck appears once again to have been used in a suspected terror attack, with three people killed and eight injured after a hijacked beer truck drove through pedestrians and into a department store in Stockholm, Sweden, international media report.
