ChevronTexaco intros new coolant conversion pack

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — ChevronTexaco today introduced the FleetFix Conversion Pack at the CONEXPO-CON/AGG trade show.

The FleetFix Conversion Pack contains all the materials needed to convert conventional coolant currently being used in heavy-duty vehicles and stationary equipment to an extended life coolant (ELC) without having to drain, flush and refill the cooling system. Using the FleetFix Conversion program has been shown to result in substantial time and labor savings plus a reduction in used coolant waste removal, say company officials.

“For companies interested in converting a large number of pieces of equipment to ELC, FleetFix is an ideal solution,” said Carmen Ulabarro, Coolant Marketing Specialist, ChevronTexaco Products Company. “As more OEMs ship new equipment with ELC, it makes sense for companies to upgrade older equipment to the technology.
“The timely conversion process offered by FleetFix can help lower the potential for cross-contamination. Cross-contamination during a normal conversion process can occur if several coolants are being maintained in a shop simultaneously.”

Once a cooling system is converted to ELC using the FleetFix, the coolant can have a service life of up to 600,000 miles, six years or 12,000 hours (with extender addition at 300,000 miles/three years or 6,000 hours) and the customer should begin to see improved performance and reduced cooling system maintenance costs, according to the company, provided products like Delo Extended Life or Texaco Extended Life Coolant Prediluted 50/50 are used for top up.

FleetFix – which can be used in any equipment requiring a heavy-duty coolant, regardless of fuel type – is ideal for customers, with over 100 pieces of equipment, in the commercial transportation (off- and on-road), mining, construction and agriculture markets.

A single FleetFix Conversion Pack comes with enough fluid to convert five Class 8 trucks, or an equivalent amount of stationary machinery, with cooling systems between nine and 12 gallons. A component of the FleetFix Conversion Pack is FleetFix Conversion Concentrate, a concentrated version of the patented inhibitors found in ChevronTexaco ELC.

The FleetFix Conversion kit includes:
– Five 1-gallon containers of FleetFix Conversion Concentrate
– 12 FleetFix Conversion test strips
– 10 FleetFix Conversion Radiator ID stickers
– Five mail-in post conversion coolant tests
– Complete set of conversion instructions
– Freeze point charts

ChevronTexaco introduced FleetFix as its newest method for converting customers to ELC. This method has been field tested over the last eight years on over 150,000 vehicles and been found to be effective and safe. ChevronTexaco recommends three methods for converting to ELC. The first and preferred method is a complete drain, flush and refill with a fresh charge of ELC. This method eliminates the old coolant and most of the deposits that have built-up over time. As a secondary method, ChevronTexaco also recommends draining the coolant, without flushing the system, and refilling with ELC Prediluted 50/50. This method removes a limited amount of contaminants and about 90 percent of the old conventional coolant.

The final recommended conversion procedure is the use of FleetFix. With FleetFix, none of the old coolant or deposits are removed but addition of FleetFix will provide a full dose of extended life inhibitors. Prior to undergoing the FleetFix process the current coolant is tested for freeze point, pH and nitrite levels, to insure it is of a quality acceptable for conversion.

FleetFix will be available through ChevronTexaco and its lubricant marketers in the United States in March of 2005.

Benefits of ChevronTexaco Extended Life Coolant (ELC) products:

ELC products offer improved performance and lower maintenance costs when compared with conventional coolants. ELC products provide increased water pump life, superior heat transfer, improved hard water compatibility, protection from cavitation, corrosion, erosion and liner pitting. ELC products do not contain silicates so no silicate dropout or gel formation is experienced during use or storage.
