Drivewyze adds cargo theft alerts to Safety+

Drivewyze is adding cargo theft alerts to its Safety+ service by teaming up with Verisk – the company behind the CargoNet theft prevention and recovery network.

Drivers who approach one of the top 50 riskiest parking locations and 50 riskiest counties in the U.S. will receive visual and audible alerts through existing ELDs or telematics devices.

No driver interaction is required.

The high-risk areas are regularly updated and based on CargoNet data. Subscribers will also receive daily “hot theft zone” alerts concerning recent incidents in Canada and the U.S.

The underlying CargoNet database draws on information from law enforcement, insurers, transportation companies, manufacturers and retailers.

The tool comes as CargoNet data shows cargo theft incidents are on the rise. Last year, 1,300 cargo theft incidents in the U.S. and Canada were reported to CargoNet, representing nearly US$58 million in lost cargo.

Totals were up more than 5% in the first quarter of 2022, compared to the fourth quarter of 2021.
