Hino searches for most rugged “survivor”

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. -- Hino dealers across Canada are searching for the oldest Hino truck still in service.

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Hino dealers across Canada are searching for the oldest Hino truck still in service.

Hino trucks have been in active service on roads across Canada for 30 years and the company wants to know if there are any Hino trucks dating back to the 1970s that are still going strong.

“Hino has customer testimonials stating that their vehicles have clocked more then one million kilometres with few repairs and are still delivering the goods! We want to find these amazing trucks and reward their owners for their outstanding loyalty," says Alan Masters, vice president of Hino Motor Sales Canada.

From the entries received by March 31st, an independent panel of three industry professionals will choose three finalists. They will then vote to establish a 1st, 2nd and 3rd ranking. The 1st place contestant wins a Mediterranean cruise for two, the second place winner is going with a companion to London and the third place winner gets a trip for two to Las Vegas.

The winners will be presented with their awards at Hino Canada’s 30th Anniversary Celebration, to be held on the evening of Friday, April 16th at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto.

“The truck may not be pretty, but it will be tough," says Alan Masters of the trucks he expects to find.

Hino trucks have already earned their "survivor" stripes in another manner. The Dakar Rally, a journey of more than 11,000 km through Spain, Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Mali and Burkina Faso is considered to be the world’s most punishing rally. In January, for the 14th straight year, a Hino truck made it to the finish line! Sixty-three trucks started out and only 38 finished. The Hino FT came in fifth, battling and beating many monster trucks with twice the engine capacity.
