WATERVILLE, N.S. — Michelin’s Waterville plant has reached a new milestone, producing its 20 millionth tire.

Michelin celebrated the event by donating $20,000 to local charities during a ceremony at the plant. Local charities were represented at the ceremony along with politicians, government representatives and community leaders.

"Producing 20 million tires represents 23 years of hard work by a skilled and dedicated workforce," announced Grant Ferguson, Michelin Waterville plant manager. "We could not have reached this milestone without the support of the community and so this event is an opportunity to say thank you. Our surrounding communities have been instrumental in our growth. We are proud that Michelin’s success has translated into the development of strong partnerships and lasting relationships."

Michelin’s employees were able to recommend which charities they wanted to donate to. The top 20 charities each received a cheque for $1,000.

Michelin’s Waterville plant has been producing truck and small industrial tires since 1982. There are 1,100 employees working at the plant.

"The hard work everyone has demonstrated is paying off," adds Ferguson. "Last year, we secured a 16 million dollar investment to produce large industrial and construction tires. We are committed to maintaining our success and to promoting Nova Scotia as a key partner to our success."
