OTA wants info on drive clean program
OTA has contacted Ontario Environment Minister Leona Dombrowsky to request information about the Heavy-Duty Drive Clean Program.
Th association also wants to discuss the ministry’s future plans regarding initiatives to reduce unnecessary commercial vehicle idling.
With the review of the Heavy-Duty Drive Clean Program coming up in 2006/07, OTA has asked the Minister to release a copy of the cost-benefit analysis of the Heavy-Duty Drive Clean Program done by Pollution Probe for MOE and to update the historical past-fail rates for heavy trucks and share this information with OTA, in order to enable constructive dialogue based on a common understanding of the facts.
“OTA’s long-standing position regarding the periodic component of the Drive Clean testing program for trucks is that the costs – measured in equipment downtime and testing fees – far outweigh any environmental benefit,” said OTA president David Bradley.
