RICHMOND, B.C. — Pacbrake has introduced a new exhaust brake for 3.5-inch applications.

The company says its new constant backpressure exhaust brake competes with both engine and fixed orifice exhaust brakes. It’s designed for in-city driving and steep downhill applications.

Pacbrake says its PRXB boasts 1/3 more retarding horsepower than a standard exhaust brake at 1,500 RPM. The new design results in constant backpressure which allows for optimum retarding performance through the entire RPM range.

The new PRXB also provides enhanced performance at mid-range, which the company says will reduce brake relines by up to five times over the life of the vehicle. This could result in a savings of up to $7,500 in maintenance costs, Pacbrake officials claim.

Pacbrake also points out the PRXB exhaust brake is quiet enough to be used where engine brakes are prohibited. It’s also only the weight and the price of an engine brake while offering the retarding horsepower. It’s also available in four- and five-inch applications.
