The Purifilter aftermarket DPF will allow older trucks to legally operate in California under its impending emissions rules.
RENTON, Wash. — Fleets operating in California will soon require diesel particulate filters (DPFs), regardless of their model year.
To that end, Paccar parts dealers are now offering an aftermarket passively regenerating DPF, dubbed the Engine Control Systems Purifilter. It can be installed on a wide range of Class 8 trucks, the company says.
“We’re pleased to offer the Engine Control Systems Purifilter because of its reliability and durability,” said Jeff Sass, general marketing manager for Paccar Parts. “It was the first DPF recognized by the US Environmental Protection Agency to reduce particulate matter emissions by 85% and the first passive DPF to meet CARB’s strict 20% nitrogen oxides requirement. With that kind of reduction, truck operators will meet CARB’s new emission regulations.”
The aftermarket DPF will be available through Kenworth and Peterbilt dealers in the US and Canada, the company says.
“By offering the Purifilter, we’re helping truck operators significantly reduce microscopic soot particles in exhaust emissions, which research has shown contributes to various health problems,” Sass added.
By 2011, all trucks operating in California will have to gradually reduce their soot and NOx emissions. Truck operators will have to operate newer trucks, which have come equipped with DPFs since 2007, replace older engines or equip their trucks with aftermarket DPFs such as the Purifilter.
“Eventually, all truck operators will need to replace their equipment with new truck models as truck and engine manufacturers make advancements in emission reduction technology,” Sass said. “Buying and installing these diesel particulate filters now allows truck operators to continue making money on their current rolling stock until they’re ready to buy or lease new trucks.”
