Xantrex brings lithium-ion power to trucks

by Today's Trucking

Xantrex is giving heavy trucks a way to break free from idling with the Freedom e-Gen lithium-ion auxiliary power unit.

Available as an OEM installation or through the aftermarket, the Freedom e-Gen and its battery bank offers AC and DC power to run hotel loads as diverse as televisions, microwaves, fridges, and auxiliary HVAC units.

Options range from 125 Ahr to 1,260 Ahr, and the company says the batteries offer four times the energy density of traditional deep-cycle batteries, at half the weight.

The Freedom XC inverter/charger integrated into the system coverts DC electricity from the batteries into a source of AC power. Available ratings range from 1,000 to 3,000 watts, and are combined with high surge capabilities and premium sine wave outputs for steady power, to protect electronics such as computers.

The Freedom e-Gen can be charged using an included second alternator or shore power. An optional solar kit is also available to support vehicles that are parked for prolonged periods of time.
