OTTAWA, Ont. — A new poll by Angus Reid Strategies shows Canadians widely support a ban on cell phones while driving.

According to the poll, 76% of Canadians said theyd support a federal ban on cell phones while behind the wheel. Support was even stronger in Ontario, where 78% supported a ban with 51% strongly supporting a cell phone ban while driving.

Support for a ban was not as strong out west, with only 67% of Albertans favouring a ban and 31% opposing it outright. Nationally, only 22% of respondents are not in favour of a ban.
