TORONTO, Ont. — A truck driver was charged late last week after a wheel separated from his truck and careened through eight lanes of traffic on Hwy. 401 near Avenue Rd.

A Lasalle, Que.-based driver was charged with operating an unsafe commercial vehicle after a front wheel hub detached from his truck. The wheel hit two mini-vans, but fortunately nobody was injured.

The truck was towed to a nearby Ministry of Transportation yard where it was found to have several defects, including a brake that was out of adjustment, according to a report in the Toronto Star. The truck was placed out-of-service.
