E-manifests coming to Canadian border

TORONTO, Ont. — U.S. Custom has announced it will open electronic filing of truck manifests at two of Canada’s busiest U.S. border crossings in September.

E-manifests will be launched between Windsor, Ont. and Detroit, at the Ambassador Bridge and two tunnels, in late September.

Electronic filing at the Blue Water Bridge linking Port Huron, Mich., and Sarnia, Ont., should start simultaneously or shortly thereafter.

Canadian Prairie crossings will be up next, say Customs officials, as well as Quebec/Vermont crossings locations, by the end of this year.

And by the end of 2006, Customs plans to have ACE in place at all northern and southern border crossings.
Participation in ACE is set to remain voluntary until then.
