Engine retarder fines in NS

HALIFAX, N.S. — Halifax Regional Police’s Community Response Unit has received complaints that trucks are using their engine brakes in prohibited downtown areas.

The complaints are specific to Barrington Street area when trucks are making deliveries downtown.

The APTA reminds drivers that it is illegal to use engine brakes in speed zones of 50 km/h or less under section 181A of the Motor Vehicle Act in the province.

The first offence will be $128.75; second is $157.50 and third is $215.00
