GUELPH, Ont. — MacKinnon Transport has become a FAST-approved carrier after meeting the criteria set out by the U.S. Customs Service and the C-TPAT program.

This U.S. FAST approval combined with our recent approval under the Canadian CSA (Canadian FAST) and Partners in Protection Program allows MacKinnon Transport to be an active partner in the secure efficient flow of goods across the U.S. – Canadian borders.

This is a positive approach for a transportation service provider to meet the prevalent security challenges facing the industry while maintaining a high level of regulatory compliance. As well, this allows us to provide secure, expedited customs clearance options for customers and drivers resulting in time saving and cost efficiencies, says William Kalbhenn, manager of safety and driver resources for MacKinnon Transport Inc.

FAST is the harmonized clearance process for shipments of known compliant importers that allows for expedited clearance of transborder shipments, reduced Customs information requirements, and fewer physical inspections of qualifying cargo.

Any truck using FAST lane processing must be a Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) approved carrier, carrying qualifying goods from a C-TPAT approved manufacturer or importer, and the driver must possess a valid FAST Commercial Driver Card.
