OTTAWA, Ont. — The new Canadian Hours-of-Service regulations have been posted on the Canadian Gazette. They can be viewed at: http://canadagazette.gc.ca/partII/2005/20051116/pdf/g2-13923.pdf.

The new hours of work regime reduces maximum daily driving time to 13 hours in a 24-hour period. It increases minimum off-duty time to 10 hours per day.

Transport Canada says the new Hours-of-Service regs were designed with the results of public consultations and extensive research in mind.

“It has taken us 12 years to get to this stage,” Canadian Trucking Alliance president David Bradley recently said. “But we finally have a regulation that incorporates scientific principles and at the same time attempts to accommodate the needs of drivers and carriers.”

The new Hours-of-Service rules are expected to be launched Jan. 1, 2007.
