Spring thaw brings load restrictions to Quebec

QUEBEC, Que. — Load restrictions for the spring thaw period have kicked off in Quebec.

In Zone 1, which comprises the south of Quebec, including the major population centres of Gatineau, Montreal, Sherbrooke, Trois-Rivieres and Quebec City and extends to Riviere-du-Loup, the restrictions began March 15 and end May 15.

In Zone 2, directly north of Zone 1, including the De la Verendrye and Laurentides wildlife sanctuaries, as well as the Temiscamingue, Saguenay, Lac-Saint-Jean, Cote-Nord, Rimouski, Gaspesie and Iles-de-la-Madeleine areas, the restrictions start March 22 and end May 22.

In Zone 3, the area north of Zone 2, including Abitibi, the Chibougamau-Chapais region and the Ashuapmushuan wildlife sanctuary, the restrictions start March 29 and end May 29.

During the load restriction period the Societe de l’assurance automobile du Quebec will intensify its weighing of heavy trucks, both at weight stations and elsewhere on the road network.
