Spring weight restrictions in place in Saskatchewan

REGINA, Sask. — Saskatchewan has implemented spring weight restrictions in some areas of the province.

“In springtime, Saskatchewan’s network of thin membrane surface (TMS) highways are vulnerable to soft spots and surface cracks,” Highways and Transportation Minister Maynard Sonntag said. “I would encourage drivers that may be affected by spring road bans to check with the highway hotline or the Department of Highways and Transportation Web site for information on road bans in their area.”

The weight restrictions don’t apply to highways with structural pavements, just TMS highways. Municipalities also have the authority to institue weight restrictions on municipal highways.

For more information on spring road bans, contact the provincial Highway Hotline number province-wide at 888-335-7623. In Regina and area, call 787-7623 and in Saskatoon and area, call 933-8333. You can also get information online at www.highways.gov.sk.ca
