Richmond first city to achieve E3 Fleet’s platinum rating for fleet management

VANCOUVER, B.C. – E3 Fleet has awarded the City of Richmond with the first platinum rating for its excellence in fleet management and environmental performance.

“An E3 fleet platinum rating is the highest mark of achievement for fleet management in Canada,” said Colin Hansen, chairman of the Fraser Basin Council, a charitable non-profit organization that founded and managed the E3 Fleet program over the last 10 years. “The City of Richmond has shown exceptional leadership by earning this rating, thanks to an unwavering commitment to making its entire fleet cleaner and more efficient.”

Richmond employs its Green Fleet Action Plan, which is a component of the city’s Corporate Energy and Emissions Program, addressing all greenhouse gas emissions from city operations.

“Richmond has long been committed to energy use reduction through innovation and conservation,” said Richmond mayor Malcolm Brodie. “Our Green Fleet program provides tremendous benefits for our community including reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and fuel costs.”

The E3 Fleet program is a Canada-wide effort designed to assist trucking, utility, urban delivery, courier, government and other fleets improve fuel efficiency, as well as reduce emissions and expenses.

In addition to its Green Fleet Action Plan, the city has implemented better tracking and analysis of fleet data and fuel use, ‘right-sized’ its fleet in all vehicle classes, trained staff on fuel management and replaced vehicles to minimize repair costs and fuel use in an effort to be more environmentally friendly.

Richmond has also installed 10 electric vehicle charging stations around the city, retrofitted some of its vehicles with solar panels and supports an interactive anti-idling campaign.
