TORONTO, Ont. -- Pulling two trailers with just a single power unit is an efficient way of moving freight. It's not quite two-for-the-price-of-one, but fuel and labor costs are lower on a per-trailer basis even if equipment acquisition and operating costs are similar.
TORONTO, ON - Ontario is clearing the way for more Long Combination Vehicles (LCVs), through changes included in the latest phase of the program. The province has eliminated the cap of 16 permits per carrier, as well as a maximum of 100 carriers in the program. New vehicle configurations and an expanded highway network on which the vehicles can travel, have also been introduced, the Ontario Trucking Association reports.
Federal updates to weights and dimensions continue to roll out in provinces, with allowances for boat tails and longer tractor wheelbases. It isn't the only change in the name of harmony. Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia have found common ground on their Long Combination Vehicle programs, making it easier to run from one jurisdiction to the next. But the approach still differs from the rules embraced in Western Canada.
