Ace Phase 2 begins at Maine, Minn. Border crossings

WASHINGTON — Carriers and importers are being reminded by US Customs and Border Protection that this Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007, Phase 2 enforcement of the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) e-Manifest program will begin all border ports in Maine and Minnesota.

CBP will deny shipments into the U.S. if a carrier arrives at the border before an ACE e-Manifest is submitted or attempted.

CBP officers may accept the ACE e-Manifest cover sheet as initial proof of this attempt, however.

CBP officers will be provided with a process they can use to check for transmission attempts by carriers. The validation of e-Manifest participation should ideally take place in a secondary inspection environment.??
