Act quickly to extend reefer compliance deadline

SACRAMENTO, CA – Applications to extend the California Air Resources Board deadline for compliance to its new TRU rules must be submitted by Dec. 31.

This applies to owners of transport refrigeration units who ordered compliance technology for model year 2007 TRUs by the purchase order deadline, but will not be able to have it delivered or installed by the Dec. 31 deadline.

The application must be submitted along with supporting documentation (copies of purchase orders) by the end of this year.

The new TRU regulation’s purchase order deadlines were as follows:

* For reefer trailer, TRU unit replacements and TRU engine re-powers: Aug. 31, 2014 (four months ahead of the compliance deadline);

* For verified diesel particulate filter retrofits: Oct. 31, 2014 (two months ahead of the compliance deadline).

The supporting documentation for extension applications must show a purchase order date on or before the applicable deadlines above.

Vehicle owners can call the TRU Help Line to answer a few preliminary questions to ensure they qualify and request a compliance extension application at: 1-888-878-2826 or call 1-916-327-8737.
