Alberta joins provinces in daylight time extension

EDMONTON — Alberta is the latest province to follow suit with U.S. plans to extend daylight time by a month starting next year.

Ontario, Manitoba and Quebec have already agreed to piggyback on to the plan to extend daylight time by three weeks in the spring and another week in the fall to allow more daylight hours during the working day. Daylight time will stretch from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November each year.

The Canadian provinces mirrored the plan in order to remain in line with Canada’s largest trading partner. The transportation sector, including trucking associations, urged Canadian officials to keep time zones in harmony with our American neighbours.
