Alberta’s best wheelmen off to national championships

RED DEER, Alta. — Alberta’s best professional commercial drivers competed for top honours at the Provincial Truck Driving Championships, hosted by the Alberta Motor Transport Association.

The competition, which took place in Red Deer last weekend, is an exercise in timed precision driving, is open to all professional truck drivers who hold an Alberta driver’s licence and who have been accident-free for one year.

Those that won their categories will represent Alberta at the Nationals in Quebec City this fall and are:

Randy Smith, Canadian Freightways (Step Van); Keith Franklin, Canadian Freightways (Straight Truck); Terry Francis, SLH Transport (Single-Single); Keith Day, SLH Transport (Single-Tandem); Gary Phillipo, Ab Transport Training (Tandem-Tandem); Bill Mihalcheon, Canadian Freightways (B-Train).
