Ambassador to boost capacity if Michigan closes highways

DETROIT- The Ambassador Bridge says it will boost bridge staff to handle any additional volume if Michigan budget woes force any state-run highways to shut down or reduce capacity.

The Bridge’s portion of Gateway Project construction will continue on schedule, even if MDOT work is affected by the state budget, the privately owned Ambassador confirms.

“As a taxpayer, employer and corporate citizen, we are watching and sincerely hope for a positive resolution of the budget from state leaders. Until then, we want the traveling public to have confidence in the border and will have our dedicated employees ready to accommodate any effect on the other government crossing,” says bridge president Dan Stamper.

“Our private sector status is a real plus during these trying times in Michigan government,” Stamper observed. “That’s why we have invested $500 million in border improvements and why we are moving forward with the Ambassador Bridge Enhancement Span well ahead of the time it is needed.”

The new six-lane span the bridge is embarking on will generate 3,700 new jobs without “further burdening Michigan’s taxpayers,” adds Stamper.
