RED DEER, Alta. — The Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA) crowned the province’s top drivers in Red Deer over the weekend.

Mike Kellar of Porter Trucking was deemed the grand champion, winning his tandem/tandem class by a greater margin than any of the other winners.

Other winners included Jody Glen Sallas, City of Calgary, step van; Don Paquette, Canadian Freightways, straight truck; Calvin Briggs, Grimshaw Trucking, single/single; Rick Limoges, Grimshaw Trucking, single/tandem; and Bill Mihalcheon, Canadian Freightways, b-train.

Each of those winners will represent Alberta at this year’s national championships in Saskatchewan this September.

Briggs was honored as the rookie of the year for accumulating the most points on average over all other rookies. The team award was presented to Canadian Freightways for its team of drivers from Edmonton.
