Atlantic trucking ahead of the game
PICTOU, N.S. — The harmonization of commercial trucking regulations worked so well, Premier Bernard Lord wants to use it as a blueprint for other industries.
Lord and his counterparts from neighboring provinces will compare notes today on everything from trade to togetherness when they gather in Pictou, N.S., for a meeting of the Council of Atlantic Premiers.
Last fall, the provinces initiated a formal strategy to work co-operatively to improve economic competitiveness and the efficiency of government programs in sectors such as commercial trucking, health care, education, the environment and energy.
“We have made progress with the streamlining of the trucking regulations and I want us to look at more industries and more fields where we can co-operate together,” says Lord.
Other participants in today’s one day session will include Nova Scotia’s John Hamm, Pat Binns of P.E.I., and Newfoundland’s Roger Grimes.
