Atlas Van Lines survey indicates drivers more connected, environmentally conscious
EVANSVILLE, Ind. — An annual survey of Atlas Van Lines drivers has revealed they are more environmentally conscious and staying more connected through technology than ever before.
The King of the Road survey, now in its ninth year, surveyed drivers on a wide variety of topics.
“With the millions of miles our seasoned road warriors log each year, our drivers have very informed opinions on everything from the best tires to the states with the best rest stops,” said Glen Dunkerson, chairman and CEO of Atlas World Group. “The annual King of the Road survey allows our drivers to share their expertise with others on the road and helps the industry identify emerging trends within the profession.”
This year’s survey found drivers are doing more to be environmentally friendly while on the road. For the first time, more than half of Atlas drivers are seeking out recycling opportunities for aluminum, plastic and glass trash items they accumulate during their travels, Atlas revealed.
Also, 38% are using reusable drink containers while 33% use reusable grocery bags.
Smartphone usage amongst drivers is also on the rise, Atlas reported. Now 66% of drivers use a smartphone, up 6% from a year ago. The iPhone is the most popular, ahead of Android devices (58% and 38%, respectively). Drivers reported using e-mail and Internet more than in the past, with 56% of responding drivers indicating they use social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter every day.
The survey also revealed participating Atlas drivers’ favourite suppliers and places, including: favourite truck stop, Flying J and Pilot; states with the best rest areas, Florida and Ohio; favourite on-road music, country; favourite tires, Michelin; favourite motor oil, Shell Rotella; and favourite tractor, Freightliner.
